Walker’s Rising Stars Cooking Competition
The Ryan Wells Foundation is hosting a cooking contest on Saturday, March 14th from 9:30am – 12:30pm at Tarpon Springs High School. Competing in the contest are several Pinellas County High School culinary students who have been selected to receive a Ryan Wells Foundation Scholarship and who will have the chance to win additional scholarship money for post-secondary education from the Walker’s Rising Stars Scholarship Competition run by the Pinellas Education Foundation. The category of Culinary Arts is a newer addition to the Walker’s Rising Stars Scholarship Program which continues to feature students performing in the areas of dance, theater/stage performance, vocal music, instrumental music, and visual arts.
At the cook-off, student contestants must prepare an appetizer using several surprise ingredients for a panel of judges. This event is the chance for students to showcase their skills and talents in front of experienced judges, much like that on popular television shows like Top Chef and Master Chef, and earn money to continue their education after high school. Ashley Giasone, Executive Director of RWF “hope the students have fun and gain confidence by being put under pressure and speaking in front of industry professionals.”
Finalists will be announced at the competition’s end however to build excitement, the first, second, and third place students will not be announced until the Walker’s Rising Stars awards night on Tuesday, May 5th at the Mahaffey Theater, an event open to the public.
